Apologies for any niggles you find in this website today. I have just switched over website hosts and some of the links and images are broken. I am working on sorting it today.
Edit (lunchtime): I think all is fixed now

The first chapter of If Wishes Were Husbands is up on D. Renee Bagby’s fabulous website. If you haven’t heard of it before, it’s a great place to try out all the lastest romance novels by taking a peek at the first chapter.
My novel is featured – and looks brilliant. I’m sure Renee would love it if you popped over and left a comment.

I’ve been working hard on my new novel, Fairy Nuff, which should be coming out later this year. Most of it is done, but I’ve stuck it in a bottom drawer while I switch hats to work on a non-fiction project with a pressing deadline. I’m really looking forward to coming back with fresh eyes at the novel and giving it a good polish.

Should one plan out a novel in meticulous detail or simply let the creative juices flow where they will? I’m discussing this question over at Author House – come read more!
“I’m a terrible planner. I use that phrase in its ironic sense, like you might say of a person “she’s a terrible worrier” or “she’s a terrible gossip”. Because, in truth, I am a bit of an obsessive planner. If I’m invited to a party, for example, I have to know ahead of time exactly what I’m going to do before I get there.” – read full article
You may get an adult content warning when going to this site – please ignore it (there isn’t any!). I think Author in the House often hosts writers of erotica, hence the notice.

I’m discussing the perfect man over at the Day Dreaming website.
“If you were to invent for yourself the perfect man, what qualities would you give him? He’d have to be good looking, for certain. The sex would have to be pretty good too. It would be really handy if he did all the cleaning, the washing, the ironing, the shopping and cooked fantastic meals every night. And what else shall we give our perfect man?” – Read more!
Again, there’s an adult content warning, although this time there are some pictures on the site which are a little risque.

Talking about my love life over at Karenna Colcroft’s blog.
“I was never into boys when I was a teenager. It might sound a bit odd, but it’s true. While girls of my age were swooning over pop stars such as Adam Ant and Duran Duran’s Simon LeBon, I really couldn’t see what all the fuss was about – I mean, Adam Ant wasn’t even good-looking (sorry, Adam).” – Read more!

Just to let you know that my short story Matchmaker Cat, which was launched as a free give-away (ebook only), is starting to see a price being attached at various sites. If you want to bag a bargain, better get your skates on. However, at full price, it’s only 77p / 99cents. It’s had some really good reviews on Smashwords and Amazon (I’ve only just seen the Amazon ones – thanks to everyone who said nice things). More details of the story, with links, here.

If you listen to some people, you might think that civilisation is about to fall with the invention of the ebook. I say poppycock! I say ebooks are a good thing. And, today, I say it over at Lisabet Sarai’s blog. Click to read the article
“How wonderful it is to hold a book in your hand. The joy of that new, untouched copy with its beautiful artwork and glossy cover. The feel of the crisp pages as you turn to find out the next step of the story, and the smell of the paper straight off the printing press. It is a pleasure which I have enjoyed since small. Now, into this world of certainty, comes the book’s dreaded rival: the ereader…” – read more
If you get an “adult content” warning, just ignore it and click through as the article is totally innocent – with not so much as a swear word. I’m getting quite angry at Google trying to dissuade people from reading my stuff in this way…

Today I’m discussing the thorny issue of writers giving up the day job, over at Indigo Skye
“Here’s a piece of advice editors give to writers when they sell their first novel: ‘don’t give up the day job’. It’s an entirely sensible piece of advice, one that is repeated often, which has many plaudits, and with which I agree wholeheartedly. Even though I didn’t actually follow the advice myself.” – Read whole article

I started a new novel this morning. It was a brilliant feeling. The follow up to If Wishes Were Husbands is going to be even better – I just have that feeling.
But, as I sat down with that blank screen in front of me, I initially found it difficult to find that illusive place from where words seem to flow. Fortunately, I was around to give myself some advice! Today, I’m visiting Adriana Kraft’s blog where I’m talking about unlocking creativity. I think I’ll be coming back to read this blog of mine every now and again, just to remind myself. – Read article
“Have you ever had one of those moments where you get lost in your work? Where, somehow, your brain becomes detached from your body and is absorbed into whatever you’re doing. You don’t have to be a writer to experience this, you could be a painter, a model maker or even a dancer… As a writer, it’s those moments I strive for.” – Read more
More news about the new novel in the coming months…
